Discalced Carmelites of Our Lady of Guadalupe

carmel cristo rey.jpg

The vocation of the Discalced Carmelite Nun is that of a life of prayer and penance, a life of intimacy with God, and an offering of herself for the good of souls and the Church, especially for priests. The prayer of a cloistered Carmelite embraces the world and every soul in it.

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Ada, Michigan (Relocated from Grand Rapids in 1991), was founded in 1916 from Queretaro, Mexico when the 16 Carmelite Nuns from that Carmel fled to the United States during the persecution of the Church, and the bishop of Grand Rapids, Michigan invited them to come to his diocese.
